CCG Briefing Note On UPDF 2025 (Amendment Bill)

The Bill seeks to streamline the composition of Defense forces and establish a health care service for its members. It establishes a medical Board; define service offenses; Court martial; military court and reserve force and provides for restructuring courts martial in accordance with Article 129 (1) (d) of the constitution. The bill proposes membership and qualifications for Chairpersons of the Courts martial, ensuring their independence while allowing for appeals from these courts.

It specifies exceptional circumstances under which civilians may be subject to military law and outline the offences for which Courts martial may try them.
